BOTM Mission:

My goal with the Bassist of the month is to try and make you aware of players that I find to have a special level of artistry to their craft, a strong musical presence in their playing, respect for the role of that bass… but aren’t necessarily household names.

I don’t intend to spend time on folks that you are likely already aware of… We all know about Jaco, Christian McBride and Victor Wooten (as we should). You may have heard of some of the bassists I’ll mention here as well, but I’m betting that some of you haven’t (operating from my experiences of turning students on to different players. I’m always amazed by who has slipped under the radar for some. You don’t know until you know).

My goal isn’t to write a magazine styled article or interview people at length, but rather provide you with some information, examples and links through which you can further explore on your own and go down the rabbit holes of discovery yourselves.

I’m hoping to expand your musical awareness and palette; so you can expect a new bassist to be featured on the 1st of every month!

I am also very much hoping that you can help expand my palette as well! To that end, please do submit requests for anyone whom you feel deserves mention.
